Сегодня выполняем упражнения на прямую и косвенную речь в английском языке. Вначале предлагаю Вам повторить правила прямая и косвенная речь в английском языке. Надеюсь, вы готовы и мы можем приступить к выполнению упражнений.

В данной главе выполним indirect speech exercises на перевод утвердительных предложений из прямой речи в косвенную.

Упражнение 1. Change the direct speech into reported speech. Переведите в косвенную речь.

Example “I work hard,” Jillian said.

— Jillian said that he worked hard.

1. “I am planning to go to Kenya,” Sally said.
2. “I take my little sister to school every day,” little Anthony said.
3. “You may take my textbook,” Nonna said.
4. “They are playing in the gym now,” Nick said.
5. “I don’t like chocolate,” Mary said.
6. “My sister is ready to go” Helen said.
7. “My mother usually goes shopping on Saturday,” the girl said.
8. “The birds build their nests among the trees,” the teacher said.

Упражнение 2. Change the direct speech into reported speech. Переведите в косвенную речь.

Example 1: I have already finished the test. -> He said he had already finished the test.

1. We have gone on holiday.
2. Nelly can’t write; she has cut her finger.
3. The Ivanovs have travelled to many places.
4. Sam has already learnt the poem.
5. My sister has broken my pencil.
6. My dad has never travelled by plane.

Example 2: The party finished late. —> He said (that) the party had finished late.

1. They lived in a camp when they were on holiday.
2. My brother got up early this morning.
3. Li was a famous sportsman.
4. The couple agreed to meet at six.
5. Yesterday, I saw Mary in the street.
6. Sammy arrived by train.
7. Nicky went home early yesterday.
8. The kids played tennis in the yard.

Example 3: I’ll meet them at school. —> He said he would meet them at school.

1. The match will take place next week.
2. This work will take little time.
3. My parents will come at 3.
4. Mike will do this exercise later.
5. My friend won’t be able to come.
6. They’ll build a new hotel here.
7. It will rain tomorrow.
8. Sandy won’t be able to come.
9. We’ll have examinations next year.

Упражнение 3. Imagine that you met your friend and he told you something. Writе what he told you.

Example: I haven’t seen you for a long time.—> He told me that he hadn’t seen me for a long time.

1. I was away from school because I was ill.
2. I phoned you many times but you were out.
3. Some of the schoolmates came to see me.
4. I had a cold and stayed in bed.
5. I watched TV.
6. I’ll come to school next week.
7. I’ll be better I hope.
8. The doctor has given me many pills.

Упражнение 4. Перепишите предложения из косвенной речи в прямую.

Example: He said the meeting had finished. —> The meeting has finished.

1. He said that his bus hadn’t come in time the day beforе.
2. The boys said they would go to the football match.
3. He said their team hadn’t won the last game.
4. Molly said that she had gone to the library after school.
5. Liz said that she would go home early.

Упражнение 5. Imagine that you saw your doctor yesterday because you had a bad headache. Tell your partner what questions the doctor asked.

Example: Do you sleep well?

— The doctor asked me if I slept well.

1. Is anything wrong with you?
2. Do you sometimes have headaches?
3. Are you taking any medicine now?
4. Do you spend much time out- of-doors?
5. Do you do sports?
6. Have you a good appetite?
7. Do you usually go to bed late?

Упражнение 6. Imagine that a reporter from the local newspaper came to your school yesterday. Report his questions.

Еxample: How long have you studied at this school?

— He asked me how long I had studied at that school.

Упражнение 10. Imagine that your mother gave you some instructions. Report them to your partner. Use the sentences below.

She told me to feed the cat.

1. Come home straight after school.
2. Warm up your dinner.
3. Wash up the dishes after the dinner.
4. Buy bread, milk and sugar.
5. Start doing your homework before I come.
6. Take the dog for a walk.
7. Clean your room.

Упражнение 11. Tell your partner what instructions you have got from different teachers today. Use the sentences below.

— She told us not to be late for the lesson

1. Don’t stay outside after the bell comes.

Добрый, ну если нужно перевести в косвенную речь, то нужно знать в каком времени глагол говорения, если в настоящем, то изменения нужно по смыслу только делать, а если в прошедшем, то глагол переводить на время назад:

He said they had lived in a camp when they had been on holiday.

He said his brother had got up early that morning.

He said Li had been (was) a famous sportsman.

He said the couple had agreed to meet at six.

He said he had seen Mary in the street the day before.

He said Sammy had arrived by train.

He said Nicky had gone home early the day before.

He said the kids had played tennis in the yard.

У вас предложения в прошедшем времени, следовательно нужно переводить в past perfect (Had+ V3)

Начнем с относительно простых упражнений на Reported Speech в настоящем времени. Вы будете переводить утвердительные и вопросительные предложения. Вспомните Правила 1-4.

Перевод предложений в косвенную речь в настоящем времени

Упражнение 1. Переведите утвердительные предложения в косвенную речь.

1. «I am at home.» — He says that …

Repoted Speech. Упражнения на перевод предложений в косвенную речь в прошедшем времени

Теперь переходим к более сложному уровню — переводу в косвенную речь предложений в прошедшем времени. Вы помните правило 5 на согласование времен? Прежде чем приступить к выполнению упражнений, рассмотрим, есть ли согласование времен в русском языке.

ПРИМЕРЫ согласования времен в английском языке

1.Не lives in New York. – Он живет в Нью Йорке.
I knew that he lived in New York. – Я знал, что он живет в Нью Йорке.

2.Mother is sleeping. – Мама спит.
I thought that mother was sleeping. – Я думал, что моя мама спит.

3.He bought a new car. – Он купил новую машину.
I heard that he had bought a new car. – Я слышал, что он купил новую машину.

1. We did not know where our friends went every evening.
2. We did not know where our friends had gone.
3. She said that her best friend was a doctor.

Перевод утвердительных предложений в косвенную речь (Reporting Statements)

Упражнение 5. Измените предложения по образцу, используя косвенную речь.

Образец: It is a nice place to go. — He said (that) it was a nice place to go.

1. The fish is very good. 2. I’ll have a chicken. 3. The chicken is not properly cooked. 4. I’m very sorry. 5. I’ll get you another book. 6. We come here quite often. 7. I’ll never come here again. 8.I have seen this film. 9. We visited this place on Monday. 10. It was raining heavily all day yesterday.

Упражнение 6. Перепишите следующие предложения в прошед­шем времени. Примените правило 5, то есть согласуйте время главного и придаточного предложения.

1. My uncle says that he has just come back from Cyprus. 2. He says that he has spent a fortnight (two weeks) in Cyprus. 3. He says that it did him a lot of good. 4. He says that he has got a good tan. 5. He says that his wife and he spent most of their time on the beach. 6. He says that they did a lot of sightseeing. 7. He says that he has a good camera. 8. He says that he took a lot of photos while travelling in Cyprus. 9. He says that he will come there again. 10. He says that he will bring and show us the photographs he took during his stay in Cyprus.

Упражнение 7. Перепишите следующие предложения в прошед­шем времени. Обратите внимание на зависимость времени придаточного дополнительного предложения от времени главного (взято из учебника Ю.В.Голицынского).

1. Mike says he is sure Ann and Kate will be excellent guides. 2. He says they have made good progress in English. 3. Oleg says that some English students will come to pay a visit to their school and he will probably have to act as an interpreter. 4. Ann says she has just met Boris in the street. 5. She says Boris told her a lot of interest­ing things about his travels in the South. 6. Nick says he is going to the hotel to see his friends, who have just arrived in St Petersburg from the United States of America. 7. He says they have not been in their beloved city for a long time. 8. He says they were friends at school. 9. He says he will take them to the theatre on Sunday. 10. They say they will write him a letter when they return home.

Упражнение 8. Употребите следующие предложения как прида­точные дополнительные, в роли главных используя предложения, данные в скобках. Сдвигайте времена в соответствии с правилом согласования времен (взято из учебника Ю.В.Голицынского).

1. I said to Mike, «Send me a telegram as soon as you arrive.»

Упражнение 16. Передайте косвенные вопросы в прямой речи.

1. Ask me if I have seen the new film.
2. Ask me if I went to see my friend.
3. Ask me if my son is making good progress in English.
4. Ask about Mr.X. if he works in a newspaper office.
5. Ask about Mr.X. if his son earns his own living himself.
6. Ask about Mr.X. if he is single or married.
7. Ask about Mrs.X. if she has got an electric cooker.

Упражнение 17. Передайте предложения в прямой речи.

• Ask your friend not to talk.
• Ask your friend not to ring her up now because it is too late.
• Ask your friend to tell us about his trip to England.
• Ask your friend not to speak too fast.
• Ask him to speak in a low voice.

Упражнение 18 (заключительное). Передайте в косвенную речь диалог между девочкой волком.

The wolf, “What have you got in the basket?”

The girl, ”I have got a cake and some butter in it.”

The wolf, ”Where will you leave your basket?”

The girl, “I will leave it in my Granny’s house”

The wolf, ”Does your Granny live far from here?”

The girl, ”No, she doesn’t.”

The wolf, “Who has made such a nice red cap for you?”

The girl, “My Granny has. She made it last summer.”

The wolf, “Don’t hurry, Little Red Riding Hood (Красная шапочка)! Gather some flowers.”

Reported Speech. Упражнения на согласование времен (Sequence of Tenses)

Упражнение 19. Переведите на английский язык.

1. Я не знал, что вы заняты. 2. Он сказал, что знает три иностранных языка. 3. Он сказал вам, когда вернется? 4. Он ска­зал вам, что будет очень занят сегодня? 5. Он спросил нас, сколько времени у нас обычно уходит на то, чтобы добраться до работы. 6. Я уверен, что вы скоро будете здоровы. 7. Он сказал, что не смо­жет сделать эту работу, так как у него нет времени. 8. Он сказал, что никогда не был в Париже. 9. Я слышал, что вы уезжаете из Москвы. 10. Он ответил, что освободится, как только закончит переводить статью.

Упражнение 20. Переведите на английский язык.

1. Мы надеялись, что Сергей примет участие в конференции, если он приедет вовремя. 2. Ольга сказала, что пока я не куплю словарь, я могу пользоваться ее словарем. 3. Олег нам написал, что когда он вернется из армии, он, вероятно, будет работать в школе. 4. Мы не знали, что она отказалась от работы. 5. Он не знал, что ему придется так долго ждать. 6. Доктор сказал, что я должен побыть дома несколько дней. 7. Мы не знали, что девушка, которая приходила к тебе, актриса. 8. Он сказал, что его брат пробудет Москве еще два дня. 9. Я уверена, что она все приготовила. 10. Все знали, что она все еще будет работать в 5 часов.
